Celebration of Life ~ Georgina Greenlay
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexis Georgina Greenlay (nee: Duthie) at the Glenboro Hospital on September 9th, 2025 at the age of 77 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Gerald; her two children, Alex Greenlay and Karina (Glen) Forster, and her grandchild, Beth.
Born on June 25th, 1948, Georgina was the eldest of three children (Donald, Hugh) born of Helen and George Duthie. A daughter of a Canadian Pacific Railway agent, Georgina lived in many towns and villages across eastern Saskatchewan and south-west Manitoba. She received her Certificate in Education at Brandon University, and her teaching took her to Nova Scotia for several years. Her travels eventually brought her back to the Carberry, Manitoba area where she met Gerald and they were married in 1975.
As a life-long learner, Georgina met many of her close friends in either university or employed as a teacher in south-west Manitoba. She loved being able to support students at every school she went to and always had fond memories of the year she, Gerald, Karina and Alex spent abroad teaching in England.
Upon retiring from teaching, Georgina truly loved supporting her family. She spent weeks helping to care for her granddaughter Beth, as well as making Beth numerous pairs of pajamas, Halloween outfits, and quilts. She loved being able to travel and spend time with the family. Many wonderful trips to places like Disney World and “circle tour” road trips were had with the family.
Anyone that knew Georgina, knew her love of quilting. Sewing became her full-time retirement hobby and she has made many hundreds of quilts over the years, many of which were donated to charity. Georgina always loved spending time with Gerald in their backyard gazebo watching her flowers grow and listening to the birds sing. She will be remembered fondly by all of her family and friends.
