Alice Pittet - Mass of Christian Burial

Alice Pittet, our Mom, Grandma, Grandma-Great, and sister, slipped away with the sunrise on Saturday May 27, 2023.  Her memory will be cherished by her brother, Marcel (Florence) Danis, her children: Robert (Lorna), Annette Young (Glenn), Gilbert, Romeo (Merle), Leona McAllister (John), and Jacquie.  Also remembering her are seventeen grandchildren and their spouses/partners and 35 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Alice was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; great grandson, Ovide, great granddaughter Lila, four of her brothers and sister, Rita, as well as Raymond’s siblings and their spouses.

Alice was born on December 15, 1929 in Lemieux, Ontario to Ovila and Josephine (Cenerini) Danis.  Following her parents’ return to Manitoba the family grew to include four younger brothers.  Alice grew up in the St. Lupicin/Cardinal area. She attended Ecole St. Louis and completed her grade 9 in Ste. Marie School in Bruxelles, MB.

In 1947, Alice married Raymond Pittet and began married life in the Cardinal/Notre Dame de Lourdes area.  The young family moved to Atikokan, Ontario in 1957 but returned to Manitoba in November 1958 when Raymond bought a store in Holland.  They raised their family of six in Holland, built a home and retired in the community.  Raymond and Alice’s initial purchase grew into a family business with the third generation now operating the store.

Alice was a supportive wife working along side Raymond at the store for about 35 years while maintaining their home and caring for their children.  She was active in the community and church being on the executive of the St. John Berchmans CWA, teaching catechism and decorating the church for Sunday Mass with her flowers in the summer.  Alice was on the board of the Tiger Hills Arts Association for a number of years and also participated in many community activities.

Alice loved her flowers and sewing.  She made herself a retreat downstairs and could often be found there at 6:30 in the morning, stitching.  Alice also enjoyed quilting.  She and her sister would often get together to hand quilt treasures for their children and grandchildren.

Mostly, Alice was a strong and loving spouse and Mom.  She supported Raymond as he progressed through Alzheimer’s disease.  Her daily visits to him while in personal care were a testament to that.  She became his tower of strength and courage.

Alice was a wonderful cook.  She gained a great deal of satisfaction from seeing family and guests delighted by a special birthday cake, fresh beans from the garden, a Dutch oven brimming with pasta and sauce all prepared in her kitchen.

As a Mom she encouraged her children to work hard, be kind, do their best and to face life’s challenges with equanimity.  She loved each one unconditionally and prayed constantly for all her family.

In her final days Alice’s deep faith in God was evident.  She wanted to pray a Rosary for each of her 87 descendants and could often be heard doing just that.

Prayers will be held on Tuesday May 30, 2023 at 7:30 pm at Jamieson’s Holland Funeral Chapel, Holland MB.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be held in the St. John Berchmans Catholic Church on Wednesday May 31, 2023 commencing at 11:00 am with Eulogy prior at 10:45 am.  Father Joseph Tran as Celebrant.  A Family Interment will follow in the St. John Berchmans Cemetery.
