Barrie McGill Obituary

Barrie passed away peacefully at the Glenboro Hospital on September 20, 2022 with family at his side.

Barrie was born September 24, 1947 and was the eldest son of John (Jack) and Lillas McGill.

Barrie grew up in the Mount Hope area south of Belmont where he attended Mount Hope School just north of the Family Farm.  He graduated from Glenboro High School in the spring of 1966.

In the summer of 1969 Barrie married Beverley Pryke and they had three children, Glenn, Troy, and Lorrie.

During his working years Barrie did construction before being employed by the Killarney Co-op in the lumber yard, later managing the Co-op lumber yard in Cartwright, MB.  In 1982, Barrie and family returned to Belmont after accepting the administration officer position at the R.M. of Strathcona. He continued employment with the R.M. both working and obtaining his Municipal Administration certificate from the University of MB, finally retiring in 2010.

Over the years he was active in his community, involved with the United Church, minor sports and later as an EMS volunteer.

Barrie enjoyed farming the family farm after work, with his father Jack and later with his own family after Jack’s passing.  Barrie was a family man and enjoyed camping, fishing and being involved with the kids’ sports and activities.

Barrie was predeceased by his mother in 1982 and his father in 1985. He leaves to mourn his wife Beverley McGill, children Glenn McGill (Jackie), Troy McGill (Meagan), Lorrie Elliott (Doug), as well as eight grandchildren, Cooper, Adley, Graham, Maryn, Peyton, Carter, Ashley and Emily.

The family would like to thank Dr. Desmond and the staff at the Glenboro Hospital for their excellent care during his final days along with the staff at the Glenboro Personal Care Home where Barrie resided.
