Dan was predeceased by his wife Carol (nee Uhrich), parents Marcel & Mary De Pauw and his two brothers-in-law.

Dan was born on July 13, 1940 in Veregin, Saskatchewan.  Their family moved to Manitoba in 1948 after the DePauw farm was bought.  He attended Centerville School until Grade 9.  He married Carol Uhrich in 1964 and shortly after, three children followed with Michael in 1966, Janice in 1967
and Tracy in 1969.

Grandpa was a farmer through and through.  He took great pride in the fact that he grew wheat for 65 years.  He never ventured very far from the farm, preferring to sleep in his own bed every night.  He never once got a passport, saying “I’m perfectly happy right here”.  Instead, he was very active in
the community.  He was involved in church, Ag Society, Treherne Museum, driver for Cancer

Care, Belgium Hometown Dancers and Festival of Nations.  He was a leader in the 4-H seed
club, and served for 37 years on the Treherne CO-OP board of directors. He loved curling and playing crib at the Friendship Center.

One of the only things Grandpa loved more than farming was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Some of our fondest childhood memories were summer afternoons at the farm when we’d have an outdoor picnic to enjoy banana cake or coke and chips. We just loved to be outside, feeding the cows corn or playing on the hay bales.

He reserved his best smiles when he was with us. Grandpa could be quite the goofball, with the best jokes - which was impressive, because he couldn’t Google them. At each family gathering, you would find him playing crib with everyone taking their turn.

During our last visit on Boxing Day, it was evident that he was missing Grandma.  He was always so proud of her many talents, whether it was sewing, gardening, flower arranging or pottery.  They were married for 45 beautiful years, in which we all know she tried her best to keep him in line.  We take great comfort in knowing they are together and dancing again in heaven.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Father Joseph Tran in St. John Berchmans Catholic Church on Saturday January 4, 2025.  Pallbearers were David, Marc and René de Rocquigny, Derek Anderson, Viviane De Pauw, and Trevor Friesen.  Interment followed in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.  Reception followed the interment in Holland community Hall.

Memorial donations may be made to the Treherne Friendship Centre, Box 215, Treherne, MB, R0G 2V0.
