David Frederick Scammell

With family at his side, David Frederick “Dave” Scammell of Holland, MB, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday November 21, 2022, at the age of 62 years.

Dave was born in Treherne and was raised in Rathwell Manitoba district.  He attended school in Rathwell & Treherne. After school he started working for Metcalfe’s Garage in the winter months and for the farm in the summer. 

In 1979 Dave’s life changed forever.  Out for a drive he saw the most beautiful woman and her friend Cecile.  Dawn and Dave were married July 9, 1983.  Their love and bond until the very end radiated through Dave every time, he locked eyes with Dawn. 

Dave and Dawn were blessed to welcome their only son Curtis February 23, 1990 – no matter how many times Dave tried to return him.

Dave spent most of his life working at Minute muffler in Winnipeg, he celebrated 34 years there.  Dave never really liked living in the city.  Dave would spend every weekend at the camper with friends and family or at the farm helping with whatever needed doing.  Any chance to escape.

 In 2017 Dave and Dawn returned to Treherne/Holland area where Dave worked at different locations in the community.

Dave enjoyed camping and hunting.  He also enjoyed a good game of cards with family and friends.  May his memory bring joy and giggles to your heart  

Dave leaves to mourn his loving wife Dawn (nee Jones), son Curtis (Shira) Scammell of Winnipeg, MB, grandchildren Aaron, Anthony & Amira; sister Belle (Bob) Humphreys of Holland, MB, sister-in-law Margaret Scammell of Treherne, MB; brothers & sisters-in-law Marg (Brian) Shaw of Winnipeg, MB, Marilyn (Cam) Tumber of Winnipeg, Jim (Simone) Jones of Treherne, MB as well as numerous nieces, nephews & extended family. 

Dave was predeceased by is parents Clarence & Margaret Scammell, brother Clare (2013) and by in-laws Karen (Pat) O’Brien.

A Celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Monday November 28, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Holland United Church with Heather Grobb officiating.
