Celebration of Life ~ Doug & Elaine Denmee

Douglas Henry Denmee of Brandon, MB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Fairview Personal Care Home, at the age of 88 years.

Doug was born in Wawanesa, MB on March 2, 1936.  He was the youngest of three children and being younger than his sister Betty by 10 years, he was definitely the baby of the family, which his brother Jack liked to tease him about.  He had a very close relationship with his parents and eventually built a house right next door to them.

Two years after graduating from Wawanesa School, Doug started working at the Wawanesa Mutual where he worked for 40 years as a claim’s adjustor.  He made many great friendships there that lasted a lifetime.

On July 6, 1963, Doug married Elaine East from Neelin MB and they had two children, Darren (1966) and Leanne (1969).  He had two grandchildren, Kyle Douglas & Zachary Benjamin.

Doug loved to give back to the community he loved.  He was in the Lions Club for 25 years, was the secretary/treasurer for the Anglican Church for 25 years, chairman for the Heart & Stroke campaign for 20 years, and was involved in the museum committee and the first history book committee.  He also coached baseball & hockey through the years.

Doug & Elaine moved to Rotary Villa in 2015 but unfortunately, Doug had to move to Fairview Personal Care Home in 2016 where he lived until his passing.

Doug leaves to mourn his two children, son Darren of Calgary, AB, daughter Leanne Malyon (Doug Davis) of Brandon, MB, grandchildren Kyle Malyon (Dani Zalusky) and Zachary Long; family friend Chuck Long; nieces Debbie (Randolph) and Judy; as well as extended relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Elaine (nee East) in October 2024, parents Harry and Annie Denmee, brother Jack & sister-in-law Lorraine and sister Betty & brother-in-law Mike Cifra.

A Celebration of Doug & Elaine’s lives will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 1:00 pm in the Wawanesa United Church with Shirley McBurney officiating.  Interment will follow in the Wawanesa Cemetery.  Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Wawanesa Community Hall.

Friends that so wish, memorial donations can be made in their memory to the Wawanesa Community Foundation, Box 89, Wawanesa, MB, R0K 2G0 or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 2211 McPhillips St. Rm. 209, Winnipeg, MB, R2V 3M5.
