Celebration of Life - Gail Hamilton

Surrounded by family, Gail Hamilton (nee Rogers), beloved wife of Albert Hamilton of Glenboro, MB, passed away peacefully at the Glenboro Health Centre on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the age of 68 years.

Gail was born in Glenboro as the first child of Don & Catherine Rogers.  Her childhood was spent on the idyllic family farm just north of town, wrapped by the Assiniboine River.  There she learned the value of hard work and the wonder of the natural beauty that surrounded them.  Always a strong student, following high school, she attended the University of Manitoba, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Education.  Upon finishing school, she took a teaching position in Rossburn and proudly bought her very first car, a brand new baby blue 76 Dodge Charger.

Around this time, she met Albert.  After courting her for 2 years, they got married on July 29th, 1978 and settled on the farm south of Glenboro.  There she taught Grade 2 for few years before stepping away to raise her three sons and help with the ever-growing family farm.  Once all the boys were driving, she returned to the school system as a Reading Recovery Teacher, where she worked one on one with young students that needed extra help.  She loved this role as she got to see her students progress and work in various local schools.  She retired in 2009 and, from that point on, directed most of her time and attention to her grandchildren.

She gave herself the moniker “GG” short for Grandma Gail and fully embraced the role.  She was never opposed to a long drive or multiple flights to visit them, and she did it often.  During these visits, she was always busy.  Helping around the house, shuttling them to and from school/practices/games, helping with homework, improving their reading, and of course, constantly whipping her famous GG meals.  She was so thrilled when her first local grandchild Liv arrived.  She relished the opportunity to provide GG daycare multiple times a week.

In between trips and daycare days, she continued with her lifelong passion for gardening both in town and at the farm.  More recently, she rediscovered her love of sewing and became an avid quilter, making quilts for all her grandchildren.

She and Albert enjoyed many adventures and hosted many friends at “The Lookout” a special spot she purchased on the Rogers family farm.  She continued to lead a very active life as she and Albert could often be found camping with friends, hiking in the woods, exploring on their side by side, or taking their boat on the river.

While she left us too early, she was blessed to have lived a very full and rewarding life, and her legacy will live on through the family she shaped.

Gail is survived by her husband Albert, sons Travis (Carley) of Richmond, Virginia, Trent (Kyla) of Kenora, ON, Ian (Kyla) of Glenboro, MB and six grandchildren Richmond, Phillip, Lane, Leah, Liv & Trip; sisters Joan (Barry) Jackson of Calgary, AB, Jill (Ken) Vertz of Sherwood Park, AB and sister-in-law Trina (Curt) Wytinck of Glenboro, MB.

She also leaves to mourn her brothers & sisters-in-law Glen (Carleen) Hamilton of Glenboro, MB, Ron (Ann Marie) Hamilton of Steinbach, MB, David (Shelley) Hamilton of Morden, MB, Rick (Sharon) Hamilton of Glenboro, MB, Janice Hamilton (Paul) of Winnipeg, MB, Lorna (Steve) Hadican of Regina, SK, Gus Hacault of Lorette, MB, as well as numerous extended relatives & friends.

Gail was predeceased by her father, Don Rogers (2009), mother, Catherine (nee McTaggart) (2020), brother Glen (2003), father & mother-in-law Stewart & Eva Hamilton, and sister-in-law Heather Hacault (2023).

A Celebration of Gail’s Life will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 3:00 pm in the Glenboro Kinsmen Community Hall with Milo Spooner Craig officiating.  A family interment will take place in the Glenboro Cemetery.
