Passed away at the Tiger Hills Health Centre on Friday March 19, 2021 at the age of 84 years, George Michiels, of Holland, MB.

Left to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Maria (nee Van den Bosch), his children: Patsy of Brandon, MB, Kathy of Canmore, AB, Marleen (Eugene) of Cartier, MB, John of Holland, MB, Kristine of Calgary, AB, Robert (Janelle) of Winnipeg, MB, Francis (Heather) of Winnipeg, MB, Steven (Stacey) of St. Eustache, MB as well as his grandchildren: Katelyn (Glen), Ryan, Breena, Keenan, Kendyl, and Rory, and his great-grandchildren: Gunner and Jase.  Also left to grief are his In-laws: Denise Michiels of Holland, Sr.  Godelieve Van den Bosch of Itegem, Belgium, Jeff Van den Bosch of Tabatinga, Brazil, Jan Van den Bosch (Maria) of Itegem, Belgium, Annie Van den Bosch (Leo) of St. Sebastian, Quebec, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

George was predeceased by his son Richard, parents: Robert and Helen Michiels; brothers: Father Firmin and Gerard; parents-in-laws: Louis and Stephanie Van den Bosch-Van den Broeck; brother-in-law Father Edward Van den Bosch; and nephew Mark Michiels.

George was born into a life of farming. He was 28 when he met his future wife, Maria Van Den Bosch, from Belgium, who was visiting her grandmother in Somerset, MB. After they married on April 16, 1966, they took over the dairy and grain farm from George’s parents, and raised nine children. George loved music and was a self-taught accordion player who played with various local bands for events throughout his life (including barn dances, socials, care homes and at the Gathering of Nations). George always had a strong sense of humour and really loved home-cooked meals. He enjoyed taking photos of family, churches, grain elevators and anything interesting that caught his eye. George was an early adopter to the computer scene, from his Apple 2+ to the latest iPad, using them for accounting, photo and audio editing, and even building his own website from scratch!

Pop, we really love you. You were always there for us, from helping us with our vehicles, to cracking us up with your jokes. Although we miss you so much, we feel your presence every day.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 24, 2021 in the Jamieson Funeral Chapel, Holland, MB, with Father Joseph Tran as Celebrant.  Interment will take place in the St. Gerard Parish Cemetery, Bruxelles, MB.
