Gregory Ward Joseph Wood

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Ward Joseph Wood
(Woody), partner, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and dear friend. Greg left
peacefully, lovingly surrounded by his family. He leaves to mourn his cherished memory:
his life partner Lisa Clouston; his biological daughters Kelsey Wood (Craig Steppler) of
Miami; Taylor (Rory) Gabor of Gladstone; his step children Marc (Alicia) DeDecker and
daughter Scarlet of Brandon; Michelle DeDecker and sons Kayden, Owen and Evan of
Treherne; Andy Chamberlin (Jacquie DeBlonde) and sons Finn and William of Cypress
River; Jessica Chamberlin (Ian Cabernel) of Bruxelles; his parents Mona (nee Morin)
and Leo Wood of Cypress River; his siblings Deborah (Greg) Vertz and daughters
Vanessa and Courtney of Winnipeg; Sister Shelley (Cam) Hamilton and children Andrea
and Liam of Glenboro; sister Kelley (James) Spellman, and children Keelin and James
of Glenboro; brother Brad (Debbie) Wood of Winnipeg Beach and their daughter
Brettlyn (Shane Ferguson) of Gladstone, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins,
and life long friends.
He was predeceased by: Grandparents John and Irene Wood
Albert (Margaret) Wood, Willijohn Wood, Isabel (Rene) Van Damme,
Lawrence (Margaret) Wood, Alvin Wood, Amie Wood and Gerard Wood.
Grandparents Charles and Ella Morin, Andrea(Cliff) Swenson, Charlotte (Willie)
Kowalke, Tony Morin, Romeo Hebert, and Marie(Bill) MacKenzie. Cousins Michel and
Brent Morin.

Greg was like a magnet for everyone around him. He was a friendly, chatty
man. He loved his friends and telling stories. He loved meeting people on the street in
Cypress River and just talking about the weather! He had a wonderful sense of humour
and would retell funny stories about his friends and family often. Greg was happy-go lucky
and was very easy to be around. He had many, many friends. Greg had a nick
name for almost everyone he knew, with some people having multiple nick names.
Greg absolutely loved his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was proud
of them and got great joy from involvement in their lives. He spent countless hours
driving them to hockey practices and games, teaching them to hunt and drive and
bringing them to school functions. Greg had been a member of many community boards
while his children were involved in activities, with his favorite being the local rifle club
and wildlife committee. He loved taking his grand kids for rides on "the mule" (Kawasaki
4x4) and in his jeep, then laughing about what they had said and done as he fell asleep.
To his siblings, Greg was their "safe haven."

Greg was born and raised on the farm near Cypress River where he lived. Greg grew
up farming, riding dirt bikes, and having adventures with his family and pets. Greg
attended school in Cypress River and Glenboro, MB. He attended one year of
Agriculture at the University of Manitoba. He spent his life in the meat industry as a
butcher, which he loved. He was always interested in vehicles and equipment, with
appreciation of Ford trucks and John Deere tractors. Greg loved hunting and being
outside. He looked forward to each hunting season for months, then told stories about
every season for months afterwards. He loved spending time at the cabin with all of his
hunting family and buddies. He loved Christmas time, and was always the family
"Santa". He also had great fondness for his pets throughout his life. Greg loved eating
great meals, loved to BBQ steaks especially, and enjoyed trying new recipes. He loved
chocolate, no matter the season. In his most recent years he was passionate about
farming and the land, focusing his attention to Holistic Management. Greg loved raising
cattle and pigs, and enjoyed watching them live happy, comfortable lives from beginning
to end. He was an avid weather checker, reporting the weather to everyone around him
after checking the weather network. Greg developed heart issues in his late 40's, and
was in need of a lot of medical treatment as his health declined. He always had a great
attitude and more energy than anyone could imagine. Medical professionals were
amazed at what he could still do.

A time of visitation will take place held on Wednesday February 27, 2019 at the
Willmor Chapel, Glenboro from 7:30 - 8:30 pm.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday February 28, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the
Cypress River United Church with Rev. Irene Onuch officiating. Following the
service, a reception will be held in the Cypress River Memorial Hall. Everyone
is welcome.
Interment of cremains will take place in the Glencoe Cemetery on Saturday
March 2, 2019 at 10:00 am. Friends that so desire, In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations can be made in Woody's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
2430 Victoria Ave. #5, Brandon MB, R7B 0M5.

Heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Vorster and the medical team at the Treherne Hospital, the
Treherne Pharmacy, the local EMTs and the medical teams at St. Boniface Heart Failure
Clinic and Pacemaker Clinic for their care in the last several years. Thanks to Sandra
Rex for her bedside prayers. Thanks to Jamieson Funeral Chapel for their care of us
through this. Heartfelt and endless thanks also go to our families, friends near and far
and neighbors who have made Greg's health journey bearable. Love to you all.
We were all very blessed to have had him. He will leave a large and quiet hole in our
lives.
