Helen Bernice Maloney (nee Acorn), left our world quietly with grace & dignity on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 with daughter Coreen by her side.
Helen was born August 4, 1943 at Mrs. Blaine’s Nursing Home in Glenboro, MB. She was the eldest of 4 children born to Bob & Doreen Acorn of Belmont. Mom had the busy life of living on the farm with milking cows, gardens & helping with her younger siblings.
Mom received her schooling in Belmont but had lots of fun with parties, dances, Belgium bowling – rumor has it she was a good ball player and an excellent curler with a healthy dose of competitive spirit, which was apparent even in the care home.
After her formal education was done, Helen worked at the Wawanesa Mutual until her marriage to George Maloney of Kaleida, MB in December 1961.
Helen was a homemaker and mother to her 2 daughters. Brenda Leigh born July 1962 and Coreen Denise born February 1965. When the girls were of school age, Helen started doing homecare for some of the seniors of the Baldur area and most resided in the Argyle Lodge.
Helen was an experienced seamstress. The girls remember getting gorgeous clothes for their Barbies one Christmas, coats, hats and beautiful ball gowns, which my minds eye can see to this day.
Mom was an avid animal lover. Horses were always in her life but cats were her favorite pet. Mom was an avid reader through her life right till the end. We joked that she had probably read every book in our local library where she had service on the board.
Left to mourn her passing, daughters Brenda Lussier (Norbert) and Coreen Watson, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Siblings Brent & Geraldine Acorn & family, Joann & Ian Doughart & family. Special cousins Betty Manning, Margie Weddall and extended family.
Helen was predeceased by brother Vern (Oct 1987), husband George (Mar 2006), father Robert (Aug 2020), and by her mother Doreen (Dec 2022).
Mom was courageous with her cancer battle, took everything in stride and wasn’t a complainer.
In a moment of Remembrance, raise a glass heavenward for her safe passage. R.I.P. Mom. May she meet up with others who have gone before her and watch over us until we meet again.
“You don’t have to be loud to be heard, in a gentle way you can shake the world.”
