Jean Jones (nee Sholdice) of Cypress River MB passed away peacefully at the Tiger Hills Health Centre in Treherne on Monday August 13, 2018 at the age of 82 years.
Jean was born July 3, 1936, the eldest of six children born to Dunc & Florence Sholdice of Cypress River. She lived her entire life in the Cypress area.
Jean married Murray Jones June 7, 1958. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year, but Murray passed away six months ago in February 2018. They had four daughters, Sherry, Shirley, Karen & Betty. They moved to town from the farm in 1968.
Jean was a telephone switchboard operator in her single years, but once married, she was a hardworking farm wife & mother. After raising her little girls and moving to town, Jean started a long tenure with Tiger Hills School Division as a bus driver and custodian of the Cypress River School. Jean & Murray started driving the school bus in the days when they had to own and operate their own independent bus. Needless to say, Jean drove multi generations of family members in the area.
Jean was the local Avon lady for several years and we still have products to prove it. Jean held countless volunteer positions over the years and was a proud member of the UCW and Legion. She served as the Rink convenor for many years and loved her time planning, organizing and serving on the many committees she was part of. She was a church board member and a member of the choir.
Jean had an incredible garden which she froze, preserved or canned for winter use. Picking wild berries to make her delicious jams and jellies was a highlight for the girls and especially Murray.
Jean loved going camping and fishing. She enjoyed snowmobiling and drives in the hills. She and Murray vacationed in Wales, Arizona, and the Black Hills of South Dakota in addition to their many camping trips.
Her greatest joy, besides her family, was to be involved with people; visiting them, meeting new ones, cooking for them, or volunteering for and with them. Mom's door was always open to anyone who dropped by.
Jean leaves to mourn her passing her daughters Sherry (Greg) Truelove of Cypress River, Shirley (Neil) Gobelle of Winnipeg, Karen Desrosiers (Gerry Rech) of Winnipeg, Betty (Glen) Barr of Sherwood Park AB; eight grandchildren Christopher, Wesley (Jaymie), Taylor, Sydney, Stephen, Devin, Travis and Shane & by one great granddaughter Maddyx.
She is also survived by sisters Margaret (Lyall) Lalonde, Joyce (Felix) Desrochers & Sharon (Greg) King, brothers Ralph (Vi) Sholdice, Brian (Elaine) Sholdice as well as numerous extended relatives & friends.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Murray in February 2018, son-in-law Brad McCannell & by parents Duncan & Florence Sholdice.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday August 18, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Glencoe Cemetery, Cypress River with Sandra Rex officiating. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Cypress River Memorial Hall.
Friends that so desire, memorial donations can be made in Jean's memory to the Cypress River & Area Foundation, Box 86, Cypress River MB, R0K 0P0 or to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9.
