5 June 1933 – 27 February 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a truly kind and gentle man Joseph Laurent (Lorne) Sierens.
Laurent passed peacefully at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home in Brandon on Thursday the 27th of February, 2025 at the age of 91. He grew up in the Dry River area and attended Dry River school. He farmed with his mother and grandfather for many years.
He was predeceased by his mother, Martha Sierens in 1972 and his grandparents, Adolph and Irma (nee Neirinck) Sierens. Laurent was an amazing man with a very caring nature and a great willingness to help others.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for seventy years and a Dry River School Trustee from 1956 until the school closed in 1958. Visiting and spending time with friends and neighbours were his greatest pleasures. He also enjoyed square dancing. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. He kept in close contact with cousins and other family members and was always interested in their families and their wellbeing.
On 16th of June in 1984 Laurent married Linda May Watson and became a stepdad to her two sons, Rob and Rick McGowan. In 1989 Laurent and Linda sold their farm and moved to a lovely home in Brandon. However, farming was his passion, and he continued to work part time on farms for quite a number of years after selling his own farm. There were many moves after Brandon: Ninette, Paradise Village at Ste Anne, Cypress River, Morden, Rivers, and a final move back to Brandon. Laurent easily made friends at every place they lived.
Laurent will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda, her two sons and their families as well as his many friends and other relatives. He was a true gentleman and a man of integrity.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to a charity of choice.
