Lawrence Delichte Obituary
Lawrence George Delichte of St. Alphonse MB, passed away peacefully at the Tiger Hills Health Centre Treherne, on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the age of 87 years.
Lawrence leaves to mourn his loving wife Yvonne (nee Temmerman), children Gordon Delichte, Elaine (Dave) O'Keeffe, Shelley Delichte (Mike Bourgouin), Warren (Nicole) Delichte, Karen (Robert) Niedzwiecki, grandchildren Liam (Gretchen), Connor, Tynia, Cameron, Kyra, Madison, Ian, Erin, Dion and Sofia; great-grandchildren Ara and Declan, sister Marjorie Fedak, as well as numerous extended relatives.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at the St. Alphonse Catholic Church, St. Alphonse MB, on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 11 AM with Father Vincent Lusty as Celebrant. Prayers will be held at 10:30 AM prior to Mass. Interment will follow in the St. Alphonse Parish Cemetery. Friends that so desire: memorial donations can be made in Lawrence's memory to the L'Arche Canada Foundation, 300-10271 Yonge St. Richmond Hill, ON L4C 3B5.

We couldn't have asked for a better husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Lawrence was a kind man, and always ready to help his family. He was a hardworking farmer and manufacturer (although he always told us that he never worked a day in his life) with an inventive and creative mind.
Lawrence was intelligent and well read, with an attention to detail and a focus on creating, building and fixing things to the best level that he could achieve. When he was in a talkative mood, he was an amazing storyteller, with many memories of his childhood. He always had a connection with animals and one of our favourite photos is Lawrence riding his motorcycle, with his dog Boots sitting on the back.

Lawrence started dating Yvonne when she was 16 years old and she soon became the most important love of his life. They were married on July 7, 1959 and over the next (almost) 60 years, they raised five children and welcomed ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren into their lives.
He was born and lived all his life in St. Alphonse, on three different farms all within a mile of each other. He had a love for the rolling hills and vistas of the St. Alphonse area and always considered it heaven on Earth. He took great pleasure in touring visitors around in the back of his truck, climbing up to the top of the tallest hills.
In more recent years, Lawrence continued to farm, helping his sons Gordon and Warren by working with the cattle, doing fencing and various building projects, and driving the tractor during seeding and harvest time.
Lawrence was a builder and inventor, and considered everything he achieved a gift from God. Over his lifetime he built three houses, various farm buildings and equipment, and created and manufactured his own designs for Super Trail balefeeders and panels (as well as the jigs to make them). At the age of 76, he purchased a sawmill and planer, and harvested wood from his and Yvonne's land - enough to build several new projects, including his last, a beautiful side table for his granddaughter Kyra.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active part of the St. Alphonse community, contributing to projects such as the cross at the top of the hill, the school cairn and the sitting area in front of the grotto.
Lawrence and Yvonne always loved flowers, and in retirement they worked together to design and grow beautiful flower gardens surrounding their house. Each year they grew approximately 2,000 plants from seed and nurtured them through the growing season. Lawrence always enjoyed giving tours of the garden, talking about each kind of flower and noting its characteristics.
Lawrence and Yvonne went to many old time dances and made many new friends (the last dance that they attended was in Glenboro on February 10). Yvonne and his girls will always remember the feeling of waltzing in Lawrence's arms, spinning around the dance floor.
Lawrence was an inspiration and role model for many people, but most especially his children and grandchildren, who have many memories of learning and working alongside him. He taught us the value of hard work, of taking the time to do things right, of learning new skills no matter our age, the importance of family, faith and community, and of caring more for others than ourselves. Last but not least, he and Yvonne taught us the love of the land, and of home. He was an example to all of us of a life well lived.
We love him and will miss his presence, his strength, his stories and sense of humour. He will live in our hearts forever.
