Leona Evelyn Devos (nee Anderson) was born on January 7, 1925, at Neidpath, Sask, the eldest child of Carl and Florence (Flossie) Anderson.
Mom is survived by her three children; Cherryl Murphy, Arvid Dalzell (Allison) and Geraldine / Gerri Acorn (Brent); seven grandchildren, Sherry Andrushuk (Gerry), Cindy Emberton (Warren), Shawn Twigge (Ashley), Cory Dalzell (Tina), Stacy Twigge, Colleen Dalzell (Fernando), Derek Acorn (Erin) and Shawna Acorn (Curtis); 12 great grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; her sisters Vera Borus and Sheila Brown.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Felix, son-in-law Pat Murphy, her great-granddaughter Shannelle Twigge, her siblings Ernest Anderson and Norma Fullerton and her sisters-in-law, Alice VanDeynze and Jeanne Rigaux.
At the age of 16, in 1941, she moved with her family to Neelin, Mb. She went to Winnipeg in 1943 to attend hairdressing school, eventually owning her own salon in Pilot Mound. She married Albert Dalzell in1945 and they had two children; Cherryl Ann and Arvid Norman. They lived in Calgary for four years. Mom moved back to Baldur in 1951 with Cherryl and Arvid and on April 15, 1953, married Felix Devos and once again became a farm girl.
She contracted polio in the fall of 1953 and was confined to a wheelchair until her passing. Despite that, she contributed to farm life and eventually took over all household duties. In 1956, Geraldine Carol was born. Life on the farm continued for 30 years at which time they moved to Baldur. Mom and dad enjoyed spending time with friends, including many events and gatherings with the Canadian Order of Foresters group in Baldur. They loved to travel, with the hi-lite being the month they spent in Hawaii in the late 70's. Dad, Felix, passed away on November 12th, 1987, after a lengthy illness.
Mom moved to Winnipeg in Sept, 1989 where she made many new friends and enjoyed the many activities that city life offered. Before moving to Winnipeg, she purchased a wheelchair van which allowed her to travel to many places in Manitoba and beyond.
Mom was very fond of music and dancing. She could play piano and guitar and sing for hours! She enjoyed checking out various musical groups and was in charge of booking entertainment for the social events at Kirchoff Gardens, where she lived for 20 years. Mom loved her family unconditionally, cherished their visits and time spent around family dinner tables. She kept track of everyone and meticulous records of birthdates, phone numbers and addresses! Mom moved to Meadowood Manor PCH in 2011 and then made a final move to Baldur PCH in December 2016. She felt as though she was coming home.
Mom passed away at Tri-Lake Centre in Killarney early on Friday, January 4th after a very brief illness. She spent her final hours at peace and surrounded by family. She was an extremely strong woman and will be missed by her family and friends.
