Linda Margaret Orestes (nee Lukiw)
June 5, 1952 - September 28, 2024
Linda passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the age of 72 years.
Linda was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and friend. Her loss will be felt deeply by everyone who knew her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jack (2002) and Margaret (2020) Lukiw, her ex-husband Philip Orestes (2016), and her brother, Larry Lukiw (2017).
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Laura Orestes (John), brother Allan Lukiw (Sharon), sister-in-law Lisa Lukiw, and the rest of her family and friends.
Linda was born June 5, 1952 in Glenboro. Growing up, she moved around a lot because her father was a firefighter in the Air Force.
After graduating high school, she went to the University of Manitoba to become a teacher. This was a challenging time for her, but being the independent person she was, she persevered. Linda taught for many years in Arborg and Gimli. In both towns, she was frequently and lovingly recognized with a “Mrs. Orestes!” She cared about her students and her teaching was engaging, memorable, and innovative. After she retired, she dedicated her time and effort to taking care of her mother until her passing in 2020.
She loved her only daughter Laura, more than life itself and was incredibly proud of the person she has grown into. They had a strong, unique bond and could communicate with just a look.
Linda was a middle child. When her older brother Larry passed away in 2017, Linda and her mother were devastated; he was deeply missed. Linda always adored her younger brother Al. It gave her great joy to hear about his life in Alberta and to listen to him sing and play music.
She loved animals, even though she was allergic to them. She was intelligent and up to date on what was going on in entertainment, sports, and the world. You would often find her seated comfortably on her chair with a blanket or two. Lately, she spent her time watching sports (Go Blue!), movies, or Korean shows on Netflix. Her love of movies came from a young age and she went to many matinees when she was growing up. She enjoyed spending time with her family, feeding the birds, watching her flowers grow, doing crossword puzzles, and playing her daily solitaire challenges. She worked hard on those games and was proud of her perfect score each month. Linda was a person who got things done!
Linda was generous with her family, friends, and several charitable organizations. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in her memory to a charity of your choice.
A private graveside service will be held in the Glenboro Cemetery.
“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.”
