Marjorie Dowd Obituary

Passed away at the Riverview Health Centre on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the age of 96 years, Marjorie Elizabeth Dowd (nee Skeavington), of Winnipeg, MB, formerly of Glenboro, MB.

Born January 22, 1928 in Graysville, MB, Marge grew up on a farm and tended to chores as a child.  This was the beginning of a lifetime love of animals and plants.

She began her working career at MTS in Carman, MB,  where  she met and later married Cliff Dowd of Glenboro.

Marge took a position of telephone operator with MTS, as well as working together with Cliff at the gas station known as Cliff’s Esso.  Together they raised four children.

In 1975, they sold the house and business and moved to Victoria, BC until the grandkids began to arrive.  The early 1980’s saw them return to MB to be closer to the family.

Cliff and Marge shared a lengthy marriage of nearly 60 years, with Cliff passing in 2010.

Marge had a lifetime love of family, pets, gardening and dancing, enjoying traveling and family get togethers.  After Cliff passed, Marge sold her condo and moved to independent living in a care home.  As her dementia progressed she later took up residence at Riverview Health Centre, where she received a full two years of ultimate care from the entire staff.

Marge maintained her dignity and remembered her family and their names until the end.  She will be dearly loved, remembered and deeply missed forever.

Marge leaves to mourn her passing her three children Perry (Araina) Dowd, Shirley (Dan) Proudley & Kelvin Dowd, all of Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren Trevor (Alicia), Paul (Laura), Michael & Tasha and great granddaughter Brielle.

She is also survived by her brother Don Skeavington of Carman, MB, as well as numerous extended relatives & friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Cliff (2010), daughter Marlene (1962), daughter-in-law Maureen Dowd (2013), brother Lawrence & sister-in-law Hazel Skeavington and also by sister-in-law Laura Skeavington.

A Celebration of Marjorie’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Willmor Chapel, Glenboro, MB, with Sharon Hamilton officiating.  A family interment will take place in the Glenboro Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the Glenboro United Church C.E. Building.
