Opal was born 1.5 miles north of Treherne on August 22nd, 1929, and apart from a short time working in Winnipeg, spent her entire life living in Treherne, the community that she loved.
She met Ken in 1946 and they were married on August 5th, 1950. They farmed for many years north of Treherne, raising three children, before retiring to town in 1991. To support the family Opal also spent many years working in the community, at various jobs including Home Care.
During these years Opal participated in various activities including the Matchettville U.C.W., Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Guild, taught 4H cooking, Red Hats, and Tops while at the same time supporting Ken in his many activities and interests.
Opal loved to socialize whether it was attending a dance or playing cards. She loved music and over the years learned to play the piano, organ, and the drums! Family and community were her main interests, and she was always happy to join, have fun, and warmly welcomed new friends along the way. She wanted to thank all her family, friends, and good neighbours for a full and happy life. She would like to be remembered in the following way:
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one
I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before too long
