The family announces the passing of Reta Jean Ross (nee Christie), beloved wife of the late Allan L. Ross and sixty year resident on the Ross farm north of Holland, MB, on Saturday October 9, 2021 at the Tiger Hills Manor, Treherne, MB.  She was 99 years of age.

Reta was born on March 10, 1922 at Cypress River, MB and grew up on the Christie pioneer homestead attending elementary and High School, then took teachers training in Winnipeg, graduating in 1941.

She accepted a teaching position at Oliver School, then after two years she moved on to Holland School.

In two more years, World War II ended, Allan Ross, an RCAF bomber pilot, returned home from overseas and Allan and Reta were married in the Cypress River United Church on November 3, 1945.

Allan and Reta, both with farm family backgrounds, took up their new life on the Ross farm at Holland.  Besides a busy life on the farm they raised two sons, Jack and Gordon, and Reta took part in the community as a school Trustee, a Sunday School Superintendent, the UCW, the United Church Board and in 1968 returned to teach again in Holland’s new school for six more years.

Allan died in 1995 shortly after their Golden Wedding Anniversary.  Reta remained on the farm she loved with her elder son Jack for ten years before retiring to the Tiger Hills Villa in Treherne.

Surviving are her two sons, John W. Ross and daughter-in-law Carylann on the farm, Gordon C. Ross and daughter-in-law Dianne of Calgary, AB and her only grandchild, Dr. Nicole Christie Ross of Boston, MA.

Reta also leaves three nieces Elaine Sanderson & JoAnne Murray both of Calgary, AB and Jeannie Christie of Cypress River, MB.

Reta was predeceased by her beloved husband Allan L. Ross (1995), her parents William & Margaret Christie, her two brothers W. Ledrew Christie & wife Louise and Dalton E. Christie and only sister Laura Murray and her husband James Murray.

A Celebration of Reta’s life will be held in the Holland United Church Saturday June 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm with Heather Grobb officiating.
Family Interment will take place prior in the Ross family plot at Brookdale Cemetery, Holland, MB.  Following the service, a reception will be held in the Holland Friendship Centre.  Everyone is welcome.

And whisper so you can hear,

We will always love and miss you,

And wish that you were here.

For all that life has given us

And all that’s left to do,

We’ll know no greater treasure

Than the years we had with you.
