Russell Lloyd Williamson Obituary

Russell Lloyd Williamson passed away peacefully on Tuesday Sept. 9, 2025 at HSC in Winnipeg with his family by his side.

Lloyd, only child of Russell and Emma (Johnson) was born on Sept. 10, 1939 on the home farm outside of Belmont, Manitoba.  He graduated from Belmont School and started farming with his father.

Together they trained Standard Bred horses-a job that was dear to Lloyd's heart.  He had a love for all animals-especially his dog "Sparky".

He met his future wife Joyce (Wardle) when she was teaching at Ninette.  They were married on July 31, 1965.

Lloyd took over the family farm in 1968 following his father's death.  There were lots of chores- cows to milk and pigs to raise.  "Threshing" (as he called it) was his favorite time of the year-whether "threshing" his own crop or custom "threshing" for his neighbor.

Lloyd & Joyce resided at S.E. 3-5-15 which had been purchased by Lloyd & his Dad from his Uncle Charlie Williamson in 1960.  Two sons Vaughn (1967) & Miles (1970) completed their family.

In 1979, Lloyd & Joyce purchased SE 1/4 10-5-15 and W 1/2 NW 11-5-15 from the Sampson brothers, formerly part of the Horrocks farm.

In 1991, Lloyd & Joyce purchased S 1/2 2 -5-15 from neighbor Henry Nicholson.  Lloyd had combined for him for 25 years.

Lloyd enjoyed curling with his family and friends and watching baseball as well as attending sporting events that his boys participated in.  A trip to Toronto with family to watch the Blue Jays was a dream come true!

He and Joyce travelled "many": miles when their grandsons participated in hockey and curling.  Often the hockey team would say, "Here comes our best fan, GRANDPA LLOYD"!

Lloyd always had a love of music-dancing or playing the fiddle with different groups.  He & his band played for afternoon dances in Brandon for 6 years and made many life long friends there.

Lloyd was a member of Knox United Church in Belmont and served on the Board of Stewards & Session.

He enjoyed his winter trips to Victoria, B.C. to visit his brother-in-law and nieces.  Dancing to the MUSICAL MATES in Gimli and visiting relatives and friends there was extra special due to his Icelandic heritage.

Lloyd will lovingly be remembered by Joyce, his wife of 60 years, sons Vaughn & Miles (Karen), grandsons Curtis (Jess), Carter and great granddaughter Emeline and extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held in the Belmont Community Hall on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 1:00 pm with Sharon Hamilton officiating.  Interment will take place in the Hillside Cemetery, Belmont, MB. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Belmont Hall.

Friends that so desire, memorial donations can be made in Lloyd’s memory to the Belmont Community Hall, Box 13, Belmont, MB, R0K 0C0 or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1379 Kenaston Blvd, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5 or to Stars Donations, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, AB, T2E 8M7, or to a charity of your choice.
