Salín Beaufoy Obituary
Passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Saturday February 9, 2019, at the age of 97 years, Salín Sigurveig Beaufoy (nee Johannesson), formerly of Baldur, Manitoba.
Salín leaves to mourn her passing her girls (and boys) Patricia, Ursula and Bill, Lelia and Peter, Sydney, grandson Andrew and Ché, great grandson Boden, as well as extended relatives and friends.
Salin was predeceased by her beloved husband Antony (May 12, 1971), parents Ingolfur and Sigrun Johannesson, brothers Pall (Rene) and Bjorn (Sylvia), and by sister Thora (Allan Thorleifson and Ray Gunnlaugson).
Salín was born February 1, 1922, in Baldur. She attended school at Antonius, Baldur, and Flin Flon where she graduated grade 12. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Misericordia School of Nursing in 1944. She worked at the Manitoba Sanatorium in Ninette, and the operating rooms at the Misericordia and Deer Lodge hospitals. In 1947 she took part in postgraduate studies in ENT at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
She worked another year in Ninette before her marriage to Tony on December 15, 1951, in St. Mark's Anglican Church in Baldur. Salín started work at Baldur Hospital in January 1952, and retired in March 1987 after 35 years as a general duty nurse and matron without a sick day!!
Salín was part of the Fort Rouge Cardinals baseball team as a pitcher and won the Intermediate Girls Fastball League Championship in 1945. She enjoyed following the local baseball and hockey teams when she could no longer play.
Salín was involved with the Argyle Lodge, Handicraft Club, Figure Skating Club, Baldur Legion, Baron's Hockey Club, and Anglican Church in which she served as a licensed Lay Reader in the Anglican Church for 29 years.
A Celebration of Salín's Life will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 1:00 pm in the Baldur Memorial Hall with Al Thorleifson officiating. Interment will take place in the Baldur Cemetery.
