It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sharron Lee Bannerman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. Sharron passed away peacefully at the Tri Lake Health Centre in Killarney MB, on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the age of 83. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, generosity and countless cherished memories.
Sharron Lee Bannerman, the youngest of four daughters born to Elwood and Muriel Buchanan, was born on November 7, 1941, in Unity, Saskatchewan. She grew up on a family farm in Unity, cherished by her sisters Dorothy, Margaret, and Lois.
As a child, Sharron treasured riding her horse, "Pinky", to school, adding a touch of adventure to her daily routine. She enjoyed music, playing with her sisters and activities on their farm. She excelled in academics and earned the Governor General’s Award at high school graduation.
After graduating from high school, Sharron’s best friends, Lorraine and Gary Wood, introduced her to her future husband, Ralph, in Unity in 1960 and were wed there in 1962. They then moved to Saskatoon, SK for 2 years where Sharron attended Teacher’s College. In 1964, they relocated to Winnipeg, MB for 2 years where she worked at a school in the north end teaching grade 1. In 1966, Sharron and Ralph moved to Baldur where they established Bannerman Lumber that served the community for many years. Sharron's passion for education shone brightly throughout her career. She served as a dedicated teacher at Baldur, Mariapolis and Shamrock schools. She further contributed to the education system as an Educational Assistant at Pilot Mound and Crystal City. Her genuine love for children, coupled with her natural gift for teaching, was evident in her warm and nurturing approach.
A natural and accomplished musician, Sharron began playing piano at a young age. She displayed a remarkable ability to both play by ear and read music with ease. This innate talent drove her to excel, and she ultimately became an accomplished pianist, bringing the works of the great classical masters to life with her performances.
In her leisure time, Sharron found solace in the beauty of classical music, the joy of reading, the tranquility of gardening and the simple pleasure of swinging on her swing set in her backyard. She and Ralph were avid Toronto Blue Jays and Winnipeg Jets fans and rarely missed watching a game. As a devoted homemaker, she welcomed family and friends into her home with open arms. Many cherished family reunions were held within her warm embrace. A loving mother and grandmother, she found joy in nurturing her loved ones, often spending time with her children relishing their interests, reading and playing with her grandchildren, canning, baking and preparing delicious meals. Her famous sugar cookies, tarts, vinarterta, rhubarb relish, cranberry ketchup and apple crisp from her own apple trees were particular family favourites. Sharron will always be remembered for her kind-heartedness, whimsical personality and patience.
Sharron leaves to mourn her passing: her son, Jeff Bannerman (Laurie Glenn-Martindale); her daughter, Carla Phillips (Brad Keeble); her grandchildren, Beau, Jazmin and Sophie; her sisters, Margaret Scheidt and Lois (Bill) Hutchinson; her in-laws, Bob (Janet) Bannerman, Elaine Kavaner, Shirley Bannerman and Sylvia Bannerman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; her parents, Elwood and Muriel Buchanan; her sister, Dorothy Scheidt, her brothers-in-law, George and Don Scheidt. On the Bannerman side, her parents-in-law, Alexander & Sara; her brother and sisters-in-law, Ruth Lockhart (Jim), Roy Bannerman (Irene), Margaret Cook (John & Bert), Ruby Belmore (Frank), George Bannerman (Shirley), Ivy Wray (Raymond), John Bannerman (Sylvia), Grace Harder and Bob Kavaner.
