Sonia Rose (Posmituck) Derkach

Passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday August 22, 2023 at the age of 82 years, Sonia Rose Derkach (nee Posmituck), of Wawanesa, MB.

Sonia was born in Olha, MB on July 13, 1941 to Fred & Lena Posmituck, the eldest of three sisters.  She graduated high school in Oakburn, MB and continued on to teachers college in Winnipeg. 

Sonia’s deep love for children & teaching involved her working in the education system most of her life, having taught for two decades prior to the birth of their only child and then returning as a substitute teacher well into her 60’s. 

Sonia leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 60 years Peter, son Donovan & daughter-in-law Mandy & granddaughter Miah all of Fernie, BC; sisters Olia Balan & Shirley Kimpinski, both of Shoal Lake, MB, in-laws Len (Margie) Derkach of Russell, MB & Henry Derkach of Regina, SK, as well as numerous extended relatives & friends.

Sonia was predeceased by her parents Fred & Lena Posmituck, brothers-in-law Melvin Balan & Bob Kimpinski and by in-laws John (Lena) Derkach and Gloria Derkach.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 10:30 am in the Wawanesa Community Hall with Shirley McBurney officiating.

Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Russell, MB, with Father Jay Korban as Celebrant.  Eulogy prior to Mass.  Interment will take place in the Russell Memorial Gardens.
