Wayne "Bud" King Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Philip “Bud” King of Cypress River, MB, at the age of 98 years old on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at his final home at The Tiger Hills Personal Care Home Treherne, MB

Wayne (Bud) King was born at home on February 18, 1924 with the local midwife attending.  He was the 6th of 7 children.  His parents were Emma and Ezra King who migrated to Canada from the USA to homestead in the southern community of Big Beaver Saskatchewan.

Once Bud grew-up he went to school in Regina SK and became a welder.  Upon returning to his home, he married Eunice Fister in 1945.   They were married in Montana as they lived only a mile from the US border.  Bud and Eunice later went on to have 3 children, Greg, Leanne and Todd.

Bud and Eunice moved to Langruth MB when Greg was a baby, to work with an uncle on his farm.  Bud eventually bought his own farm a few years later and raised cattle and grew grain.  In the winter, he commercial fished on Lake Manitoba.  However, he also had various jobs to supplement the family income such as grader operator and school bus driver.

In 1966 he took the job of grain manager of the Federal Elevator in Cypress River.  Once that company closed, he worked for the provincial Fisheries in the fish hatchery and restocking Manitoba lakes.  A few years later he was approached by Patterson Elevator to buy grain for them in Cypress River.  He loved his work and had wonderful customers with many of them becoming good friends.  He always said the move to Cypress River was the best move for him and his family.  Once he retired, he worked summers with Greg in his business and wintered in Arizona.

When Eunice passed away in 2012 Bud moved into the Cypress River Lodge where he lived until 2019.  He enjoyed his time there and enjoyed the good meals and wonderful staff at the Drop-in.  When he lost his leg, he moved into Treherne Personal Care.  There he recovered and learnt to walk with his prothesis.  He loved his time there with very caring staff.

Bud was always grateful and proud of his accomplishments and his family.  He died peacefully with Greg, Leanne and Todd at his side.  He will be greatly missed.

Wayne is survived by his sons Greg (Sharon) of Grand Rapids, MB, Todd (Nicole) of Thompson, MB, daughter Leanne (Jack) Fronius of Rockland, ONT; grandchildren Trevor (Sarah), Sandi (Parke), Angela (Moe), Christopher (Desiree), Nicole, Samantha, & Terry Smith; great grandchildren Chase, Carter, Amber, Luke, Emily, Nicholas, & Kennedy, as well as numerous friends and extended family.

Wayne was predeceased by his Wife Eunice, parents Ezra & Emma (Sawin), siblings Marten, Arnold, Grace, Walter, Laura, & Gwen.

A time of visitation will be held November 12, 2022 at 12pm at Willmor Chapel, Glenboro, MB.  A Graveside Service will be held on November 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Glencoe Cemetery, Cypress River, MB with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Cypress River Memorial Hall.  Everyone is welcome.
