Barry "Keith" Vrooman Obituary

Passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on Friday June 24, 2022 at the age of 86 years, Barry “Keith” Vrooman, of Brandon, MB, formerly of Melita, MB.

Barry Keith Vrooman was born to Tom and Lena Vrooman on January 17, 1936, at the home farm NE of Belmont. He attended Clifton Bank, Hilton, and Belmont schools, and then farmed with his brother, Murray, until 1963 when he went to work providing bulk fuel, tire repair, and retail fuel services at Anglo Canadian Oils and all of its iterations.

In 1964, Keith married Dorothy Arran. Together they had a family of three: Cal, Glen, and Connie. In 1981, Keith made a career change and joined the Virden Credit Union and became the Manager of the Melita/Waskada Branch. He remained with the Credit Union until he retired in 2001.

Keith was active in the communities in which he lived, coaching and umping baseball for Cal and Glen, and supporting the various musical, athletic, social, and academic pursuits of all three kids. While living in Melita, Keith was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, served as President of the Melita Lions Club, and as Treasurer for the United Church.

For many years Keith played alto and tenor saxophone with a series of dance bands, entertaining countless dancers while on stage with the Kings Men.

Keith is pre-deceased by his parents, Tom and Lena, brothers Murray (Joyce) and Irv, and niece Lynne (Vern). He is survived by his wife Dorothy, sons Cal (Imie) and Glen, daughter Connie, grandchildren Kyle (Lesley), Cory (Heather), and Avery, great-grandchildren Quinn and Emmett, niece Beth Kippen (Terry), and nephews Brian (Nancy) and Bruce.
