It is with great sadness that we announce the accidental passing of long time Glenboro residents, Kenneth Charles Dowd aged 91 years, and Shirley Joyce Dowd (nee Conley), aged 86 years, on Monday, July 4, 2022.

Ken & Shirley leave to mourn their three children & families, son Dwayne & wife Patricia Dowd of Alberta, grandchildren AJ (Carmen) & Shaun (Karlie) & great grandchildren Darby, Nevaeh & Lola; daughter Sue & husband Rick Bomak of MacGregor, grandchildren Brent (Anjela) & Krista (Henry) & great granddaughter Hazel;  son Kenn & wife Mercedes of Glenboro, MB, grandchildren Mandy (Braeden) & Scott (Rebecca).

They are also survived by Ken’s brother Tom Dowd of Winnipeg, MB, sister-in-law Helen Dowd of Arborg, MB, nieces Cheryl Janz, Janet Jolin & Joan Dowd, nephew Bob Dowd as well as numerous extended relatives and many friends.

Ken & Shirley were predeceased by their parents, Frank & Peggy Dowd, Cliff & Lillian Conley, Ken’s brothers Dave (Doris) Dowd, Barry Dowd & Lloyd Dowd, sister-in-law Maxine Dowd and by their grandson Derek Bomak.

Ken was born in Glenboro in 1931 to Frank and Peggy (nee Gravatt) Dowd. Shirley was born in Dauphin in 1935 to Cliff and Lillian (nee Jezzard) Conley. Ken proudly called Glenboro his home for his entire life, working on the family farm, taking it over and then passing it on to the next generation. Shirley was raised in Stockton, and then lived in Winnipeg before coming back to Glenboro. She spent years teaching in Douglas and Brookdale, working at the Glenboro Personal Care Home and working on the farm.

Ken and Shirley were happily married for 67 years. Raising their family of three children and running the dairy farm were top priority for the first part of their marriage. The second part of their marriage more time was spent curling, golfing, camping and taking winter vacations to Arizona. Lastly, grandchildren and great grandchildren came into their lives and going to watch Christmas concerts, hockey games and graduations were now the new priority. Ken and Shirley were well-loved members of the community being involved with multiple committees and foundations over the years. They could always be seen at the golf course, curling rink and volunteering at any event going on in Glenboro.
